NICU Clinical Rotations
- There are 3 different clinical rotations in the NICU: the NICU Teaching Team, The Tiny Baby Team, and the Admission/Delivery/Consult/ECMO (ADC) Team

The Teaching Team
- Two blocks in first year, three blocks in second year, and a pre-attending block in third year
- Multidisciplinary team including residents, medical students, and a clinical dietitian
- 16 patient service with a range of acuity, rounds from 9 AM – 12 PM daily
- Fellows function as the supervisor and team lead

The Tiny Baby Team
- Specialized care for our tiniest patients born from 22 0/7 – 24 6/7 weeks gestational age
- Round on all Tiny Baby Team patients (average census 12-18)
- One block each in second and third year

The Admission/Delivery/Consult/ECMO (ADC) Team
- High risk delivery room coverage and admission responsibilities all day
- Prenatal Consults and back-up procedural support all day
- Daily Multidisciplinary ECMO Rounds when a NICU patient is on ECMO
Clinical Rotations and Electives
- Maternal Fetal Medicine includes inpatient and outpatient care, learning about management and counseling in high-risk pregnancies
- Cardiac Intensive Care Unit includes direct management of post-operative congenital heart disease patients and exposure to ECMO and CICU approaches to sedation, ventilation, and medication management
- Outpatient Clinic is spread throughout the year during research rotations, with occasional half day clinics including our Comprehensive Care Clinic (Pulmonology and Gastroenterology/Dietary follow-up), NICU Developmental follow-up Clinic, Synagis Clinic, and with other specialties that manage NICU patients after discharge
- Palliative Care will include inpatient and outpatient work with the palliative care team including involvement in family meetings where major care decisions are made
- The Interdisciplinary Care rotation allows you to work with the many non-physician disciplines that provide critical services in the NICU
- Spend time with nursing, respiratory therapy, PT, OT, speech-language therapy, care management, nutrition/dieticians, and pharmacy

Elective blocks are flexible and intended to allow you to gain experience in
an area of particular interest
- Specific NICU-related clinical electives including Complex Care, ECMO, Neonatal Pharmacy/Nutrition
- Surgical electives include general surgery, ENT, neurosurgery (including fetal surgery), and Urology
- Or you can design your own elective!

Research Rotations
- Flexible time to arrange for your specific needs depending upon your research project
Call and Weekend Schedule
- Around 40 in-house calls per year

During clinical service time, ONLY weekend calls
- One Friday 24 hour shift and one Saturday 24 hour shift per clinical service month
- This allows you to be consistently present Monday-Friday for the rotation to preserve continuity and maximize your educational experience
- Two full weekends off per month on all rotations
